Lake Duluti is formed inside a volcanic crater and has water throughout the year, mainly from groundwater and seasonal rainfall. The crater is a subsidiary vent to Mount Meru (4566m) that towers over the lake.
Lake Duluti covers about 63 hectares (160 acres), and the surrounding Duluti Forestry Reserve covers about 19 hectares (47 acres) of land.
Day 1: Momella Lakes – Canoeing
Lake duluti is an old crater which eventually turned into a lake. Its depth is not yet confirmed but they say it’s more than 700m deep. The lake is situated between the beautiful lush green forests and offers a great deal of activities. This reptiles and birds haven offers amazing view of mount meru and sometimes Mount Kilimanjaro can be spotted also. It is no surprise to see monitor lizards sunbathing on the edge of the lake while variety of birds fly around with their beautiful melodies. Sometimes monkeys can also be spotted swinging from the treetops on the edge of the lake.
Our day trip will begin in the tourist capital,arusha and our short will lead us to duluti forest club where we will stop and enjoy the magnificent surroundings, from here we will have a guided walk around the lake and take a canoe out for a spin. Our hike will involve some learning about the fascinating history of the lake with it flora and fauna.
After an exhilarating day the tour will end with a drive back to arusha town
